Quaver’s Marvelous World

I am so excited about this music teaching resource! If you are looking for a fun, fresh, new way to introduce music theory concepts to kids this is it! Although it is designed for classroom use, I am finding it very useful in private piano lessons. My students love the entertaining and engaging videos. There is also a companion website where kids can explore the music concepts in-depth, and it is so much fun!!! I cannot say that enough because with kids, it’s all about fun.

If you order the DVDs, you will get awesome teaching guides, worksheets,  and access to online helps as well. A word of warning, though – the DVDs are expensive. Each DVD contains 2 episodes for about $69. I was so impressed with the youtube previews and their website that I felt it was worth the investment – especially since I can use it with all my students  – and I am not disappointed!  You can get more information on their website at www.quavermusic.com

Have you tried Quaver’s Marvelous World in your studio? If so, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it and how you use it.

  2. Dana, I showed a preview clip of Quaver at my piano class tonight (discussing the Baroque period) and the kids were memorized. Do you still find this program valuable after a couple of years? It would definitely be an investment! I’m tempted to purchase selective DVDs since I am not trying to be as comprehensive as a school music program would be. I’d appreciate any feedback/opinion/insight. Thanks!

    • Hi Karen, the programs is a HUGE investment. I do believe that it is a great program and valuable for learning. Students LOVE it. I purchased 2 of the DVDs and still use them whenever I can. If you constantly have opportunities to use them with new students I would say the investment is worth it. If on the other hand you mostly have students who have been with you a long time then you may want to just use the YouTube clips since once the students have seen it, well they’ve seen it. The DVDs are also a great investment if you do summer camps or other workshops. I hope this helps.

      • Thank you Dana for your input. I meant to say the kids were mesmerized, not memorized! Ha Ha, that’s what I get for trying to compose a message late in the evening after a group class! Of course, I wish the You Tube clips were longer! They look so well done, and I think kids would enjoy watching these even more than once if there were plenty of time in between. It is hard finding media – especially music history, on their level. Thanks again, Karen

      • LOL, I knew you meant mesmerized, Karen. I blame it on auto correct when it happens to me! I sometimes forget that kids do like to watch the same thing over and over again, so you make a good point. I also agree with you about the You Tube clips. That is why I went ahead and bought the DVDs that I have. So…it sounds like you are going to get some Quaver?
